Fernhill Reimagined
After a complete remodel, this 1980s Point Dume farmhouse celebrates the classic Malibu lifestyle while embracing quiet, modern luxury. Sitting on 1.5 acres, this exceptional property required a top-to-finish remodel to reach its peak potential. Working with the discriminating homeowner and their incredible design team, Field & Fort, we surfaced something exceptional in this Point Dume residence.
We upgraded the front entry with a glass pivot door and ensured beautiful passages continued throughout the residence with 9-foot French doors and reclaimed wood floors. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the spectacular sun-drenched views, and we installed a meticulous lighting system to ensure that evenings are equally striking. We also integrated a Savant Smart Home system to enable security, lighting, climate, music, and video controls from a smartphone.
Each bathroom was carefully reimagined to include frameless glass showers, bespoke hardware, a freestanding tub, and the finest details worthy of this level of luxury. We also elevated the amenities in the master suite by rebuilding the cozy fireplace, resurfacing the private patio, and installing a flawless walk-in closet.
At the heart of this project is the gourmet kitchen. After reworking the existing floor plan, we raised the ceiling to the grand height of ten feet. Then came the custom cabinetry, display cases, professional-grade appliances, and built-in wine cellar. We topped the space with a six-panel skylight to bathe this gathering spot with sunshine.
We even snuck in a mud room as a respite for sandy days, a dedicated office space, and not one but two laundry rooms to ensure everyone has their haven. Outside, we prepped heating and cooling systems for the outdoor shower, barrel sauna, and cold plunge tub. Every detail of this property, from the new mechanical systems to the exterior paint, was beautifully considered and crafted. It gives us a distinct satisfaction to breathe new life into this forgotten Malibu gem.
